Bringing the flames, fears and fires of the Pacific theatre to your copy of Company of Heroes, Pacific Thunder aims to recreate the hell of the jungle warfare and the pure pain of the Pacific beach landings.
With a full range of new and extremely high detailed models and textures - from newly created Japanese men and armour, down to the simple and much loved palm trees of the Pacific - Pacific Thunder promises to give an authentic and deadly replica of the Pacific War of 1941-45.

i am curious if this mod only introduces the japanese faction or if it introduces any other faction that fought against them

Currently this mod will focus on the US Marine Corps and the Imperial Japanese Army Units that fought on the Island Hopping Campaign.

After the final release we may look into introducing the British in Burma or adding an Australian Addon.

Hello Gentlemen, I've posted a few times on your MODDB profile but thought I'd get a more direct answer here. I'm very glad to have you as fellow BSS members.
Here goes
I made a comment on here a couple months back about the USMC infantry weapons. Was curious to see if there's been any development or planning in the way of incorporating the early war USMC weapons instead of or in addition to using the vanilla mid-late war American small arms. Basically talking about the Springfield service rifle, Reising SMG and the ever popular 1897 trench gun. Would be great to see these worked into PT.

I know you guys have your hands full with developing the IJA/SNLF forces, but a PTO mod is really the only chance to see these weapons in action on a mainstream infantry basis not too mention pretty much required to portay pre-1943 campaigns accurately. It looks like you definitely have the moddeling talent to make it happen. Keep up the great work! Cannot wait for this mod, honestly looking forward to it more than EF.

Also I was curious to see if you planned on using the light IJA tanks as dug in positions like the Pantherturm in other COH mods?

An update is coming soon, however if we implement the USMC they will be more Mid-Late wartime, as we focus on the battles such as Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Saipan etc. So the main weapons would be the Garand, Thompson and M1 Carbine anyway.

After the final release we may look into adding an Australian Addon.

Bloody hell, that'd be great.

Yes, Australia and Britain are definite choices.

Well mate, I dunno what nationality you are, but I could contribute my voice to an Aussie faction.

hehe, thanks man, will maybe look into it after release. Like I say, British may be more likely included, as Burma would open a much wider theatre of war than the islands.

if you guys add another British/Australian faction will their LMG option be the Bren gun or will you implement another gun e.g. Charlton automatic rifles?

I TOTALLY dissagree with with you guys, US Mariner... (=another US) but another british? come on guys.. RTS games arent about realism (the models and textures do it already), they are about FACTIONS!

Wrong, the USMC is a completely different faction to the US, and play in a completely different way. The USMC and especially the IJA require specialist tactics required to win which by far is nothing experienced in a Company of Heroes multiplayer match, as said before, amassing a tank army on either side would result in many disabled shermans and even more destroyed Chi-Ha's.

Wrong again, they are about Gameplay and balance. We are yet to decide whether to add the factions or replace, but I assure you that if a player is the USMC and he plays vs a German team, they will be torn apart by the German armour, purely for the fact that the Marines arent capable to destroy the Germans with the available doctrines. The same is with the Japs, if a Japanese player plays against the British, then the Fireflys would completely cut down anything the Japanese threw at them.

This was the main reason that we are incorporating the new factions as new factions. And this is why I said adding an Aussie/Brit faction would actually be 2 completely new factions with an extra Japanese army or two.

As I said, we are still undecided whether to add or replace the factions, but the above reasons are the focal points of our arguements to and from.
